Info :
Desperation and The Regulators was published simultaneously, and both novels really center around a new personification of evil that goes by the name of Tak. But Tak isn´t the only 'thing' the two books has in common.

One of the major points of interest between these two books, is King´s use of the characters in each novel.

DESPERATION DEATH TOLL
In Desperation the evil being, Tak, takes 'control' of people and then kills a lot througt those people. Here's a list...

Cary Ripton's Toll:

Cary Ripton took care of roughly 35 Desperatians, mostly miners who worked for the Desperation Mining Corporation. His toll included Kirk Turner and his wife, six guys on the blast crew which uncovered Rattlesnake Number One, Joe Prudum, the night watchman at the mine, and Pascal Martinez and his entire A-crew.

Brad Josephson's Toll:

When Cary's body gave out, Tak moved into Brad. Brad snuffed out Jim Reed, the town's chief of police, and probably a number of other townfolk.

Collie Entragian's Toll:

Collie took care of most of the town, probably killing around 150 or so. He ran them over in his cruiser, shot them, had them (with Tak's help) bitten by spiders and snakes, and who knows what else. Highlights include:
Kirsten Carver - Pie, she took a tumble down the stairs at the town office, with a helping hand from Collie.
Peter Jackson - Collie shot him four times in the stomach, at close range.
Billy Rancourt - Run down and run over, a couple of times, by Collie in his cruiser.
Tom Billingsley - Cougar victim, in the American West.
Audrey Wyler - Semi-possessed by Tak, her arm was torn off and parts of her began to liquefy and fall off in a kind of flesh rain. She then fell/jumped over the balcony.
Ellen Carver - Tak used her up.
Ralph Carver - Face torn off by a Bald Eagle, possessed by Tak.

Who or what killed the parrot that was hanged in the Owl's Club, we may never know.

THE REGULATORS DEATH TOLL
In the Regulators, Tak, takes 'control' of Seth and through Seth's toys, he/it kills a lot of people. Here's a list...

Cary Ripton - While riding his bike, Cary is shot-gunned by someone inside Tracker Arrow.
Hannibal - Chasing a frisbee, Hannibal is also shot-gunned by someone inside Tracker Arrow.
Mary Jackson - Trapper John blows Mary’s head apart from the turret of Freedom.
David Carver - Shot-gunned in the stomach by Trapper John.
Debbie Ross - Shot in the face.
Pie Carver - Copper pot shrapnel to the head and face.
Marielle Soderson - Arm shot off, bleeds to death.
Collie Entragian - Accidentally shot in the head by the young Jim Reed.
Jim Reed - Filled with remorse (and under Tak’s influence), Jim shoots himself in the head.
Peter Jackson - Possessed by Tak, Pete sits down against a nasty cactus.
Gary Soderson - Throat ripped out by a passing gila monster.
Kim Geller - Jeb Murdock, in the Doom Turret of the Meatwagon, blows Kim out of her shoes.
Seth Garin - Shot in the head with a 30.06 by Cammie Reed.
Audrey Wyler - Shot in the neck with a 30.06 by Cammie Reed.
Cammie Reed - Her head explodes in the most spectacular fashion. Tak was inside it.

COMMON THINGS
It's not just people King uses again. Here's a list of 'every-day' things...

MR. SMILEY-SMILE - in Desperation, it was Peter Jackson's sister's trademark. Deidre puts the yellow smiley face sticker on everything, including the bag of pot under the spare tire in her car.
In the Regulators - Peter Jackson was wearing a T-Shirt with Mr. Smiley-Smile on it while talking to Cary Ripton.

In the Regulators, Ellen and Ralphie buy one at the store just before all hell breaks loose on Poplar street. It's dropped.
COUGAR ATTACK - in Desperation, inside the American West Theater, a cougar attacks Steve Ames.
In the Regulators, in the Bear Street Woods, a "sinister Picasso" mountain lion attacks Steve Ames.
Note: Much of the prose involved in describing the two attacks is verbatim. "a bizarre waltz was going on...the creature (cougar) was up on her hind legs, paws on Steve Ames's shoulders....He (Steve) had crossed his arms in front of his chest; his elbows and forearms were against the cougar's (cat's) chest....'Shoot it!' he screamed.
'For Christ's sake, shoot it!'....darted its triangular head forward....tangoed drunkenly, the cat's claws digging deeper into Steve's shoulder, and now Cynthia (Johnny) could see blood-blossoms spreading on the his shirt (coverall)....Its tail was lashing madly back and forth." A lot more identical text was used here.
SKIRT/HURT - in Desperation, when Billingsly is about to die, he says: "Skirt," he whispered hoarsely. "Skirt."
In the Regulators, as Collie lies dying, he says: "Hurt," he whispered hoarsely. "Hurt."
Note: I think I remember reading somewhere where King mentioned this commonality in a humorous way.
RUSSIAN THISTLEMentioned in both books, it is more commonly known as tumbleweed.
CLOUD IN SKY - in Desperation, after the explosion caves in the China Pit for good, a cloud of dust rises into the sky. It takes the shape of a wolf with a "grotesquely elongated snout."
In the Regulators, a last thunderhead after the storm takes the shape of a horse and cowboy, the horse having a "grotesquely elongated snout."
Note: Both the wolf and the cowboy and horse were symbols/used by Tak.
